YO DX HF Contest

The International Short Wave Championship of Romania

The Romanian Amateur Radio Federation (FRR) has the honour to invite the radio amateurs all over the world to participate in the International Short Wave Championship of Romania (YO DX HF Contest) which is held on the last weekend of August every year.

 

 

   I. Objective:

      The objective of the contest is to establish as many contacts  as possible between radio amateurs around the world and radio  amateurs in Romania.

 

  II. Contest period:

 

        Last weekend of August, 24 hours.

        2008: Saturday Aug 30, 1200 UTC - Sunday Aug 31, 1200 UTC

 

 III. Bands and modes:

      80, 40, 20, 15, 10 m, according to IARU band plan for each country, CW and Phone.

 

      Contacts on the segments of band reserved for DX traffic are not   allowed.

 

  IV. Categories for the stations outside Romania:

 

        • Cat. A - single operator single band

                   (SOSB10, SOSB15, SOSB20, SOSB40, SOSB80)

        • Cat. B - single operator multi band

                   (SOMB)

        • Cat. C - multi operator multi band (no more than two operators)

                   (MOMB)

 

   V. Contest call:

      CQ TEST YO (CW) or CQ CONTEST YO (phone).

 

  VI. Exchange:

      YO stations send: RS(T) + Romanian county abbreviation (two letter code).

 

      Non-YO stations send: RS(T) + serial number (starting with 001).

 

 VII. Score:

 

        • QSO with a YO station - 8 p.

        • QSO with a non-YO station outside own continent - 4 p.

        • QSO with a non-YO station inside own continent - 2 p.

        • QSO with a station inside own country - 1 p.

 

VIII. Multiplier:

      Per band, each different DXCC country plus each different

      YO county (no matter the mode).

 

      YO does not count as DXCC country multiplier.

     WARNING: Since 2007, YO stations may have multiple authorised bases in different counties, so DO NOT compare  YO district with

                                 declared county in the  contest!

                                 (e.g. YO2DFA could work in CT county <which is in YO4 district> whithout the need to append /P.)

 

  IX. Final score:

      The final score is the result of the total QSO points multiplied

      by the sum of multipliers.

 

   X. Special rules:

      The following special rules apply:

 

        • Only one transmitter is allowed at one time   (one signal on the band).

        • The minimum time to call CQ on a band is 10 minutes.

          A quick band change in order to work new multiplier is   allowed - it is OK to work one station and return to the main  band.

        • Only one QSO is allowed with the same station on the same   band (no matter traffic mode), i.e max. 5 QSOs with the same  station in the contest.

        • Cross mode QSOs are not allowed.

        • Only terrestrial contacts are valid.

        • When band or mode changes, serial number sent is progressive.

        • The use of DX spotting nets is allowed in all categories and  encouraged.

 

  XI. Penalties:

      Penalties apply for QSO errors (broken calls, bad exchanges) and   QSOs which do not appear in correspondents log. Two times the QSO

      points for such QSOs will be deducted. 10% or more bad contacts  or violation of contest rules shall result in dropping the  participant from the classification.

 

 XII. Disqualification:

      Violation of contest rules, unsportsmanlike conduct or taking credit for excessive unverifiable QSOs will be deemed sufficient

      cause for disqualification.

 

      All decisions of the contest committee are final.

 

XIII. Log instructions:

      Electronic log submission via e-mail is highly recommended.

      Cabrillo logs are recommended but a plain-text ASCII log,  in chronological order, could be also accepted. In this case  a plain-text ASCII summary sheet must be included.

 

      The e-mail containing the log will be automatically acknowledged  by the server and entrants will be informed about process of

      log-checking.

 

      The paper logs must be written for each band and should contain  the following data:

 

      Date - Time UTC - Call - RST Tx - Code Tx - RST Rx - Code Rx -   Multiplier - Points

      Separate files for each band.

 

      A summary sheet including used callsign, category, all relevant   data needed to calculate final score, description of equipment,  power output, full name and address in block capitals and signed    statement that all contest rules and regulations for amateur   radio in the country of operation have been observed must   accompany each log.

 

      If no category (A, B or C) was specified, the station will be   entered automatically in C category.

 

      All log entries must be postmarked no later than 30 days after  the contest.

  XV. Certificates:

      Special certificates will be awarded to the top scorers in each  operating category in every participating country.

      Plaques will be available respecting with our potential sponsors.

      For those contesters who fulfill the necessary conditions for obtaining the YO AD Diploma (1st class) during the  contest (8 YO districts and 10(6) QSO - depending your Zone), this diploma will be FREE, without the need of sending the request, but simply based on the Contest Log. The awards will be sent via the bureau.

 

     

 

Notes: As in 2007, YO2DFA is the contest manager for this year.

            Because we intend to set up a web page dedicated to the YO DX Contest, we would be very greatful if you could send together with the Contest Log a picture of you at your station or the antennas that you have and some impresions about the contest.
